ArkHive:
Flood-Resilient Infrastructure for Langstroth Apiaries
What ArkHive Does
ArkHive helps protect colonies during flooding by supporting the hive above rising water and securing it with a cradled base and integrated tie-down system.
Designed for Langstroth hives and bottom boards
ArkHive fits familiar apiary setups without requiring beekeepers to adopt an entirely new hive system.
Flood Validation
During Hurricane Beryl, creek water rose 6 feet, lifting the ArkHive until it reached its max stops, which kept it secured on the anchor poles. Water ultimately rose above the ArkHive, stopping just below the bottom board. Taller poles can be used in areas with more extreme flood conditions.
Accessory-Ready Platform
ArkHive is being developed as a flexible platform with accessory potential, including magnetic mounts and modular add-ons designed to improve inspections and field usability.
Flood Validation
During Hurricane Beryl, creek water rose 6 feet at the test site, lifting the ArkHive until it reached its max stops, which kept it secured on the anchor poles. Water ultimately rose above the ArkHive, stopping just below the bottom board.
Accessory-Ready Platform
ArkHive’s anchor poles can support magnetic mounts that keep essential tools within reach, and a clamp-mounted umbrella can be added for shaded hive inspections and improved field usability.
